Sponsored by the University of Colorado School of Medicine Office of Continuing Medical Education, the program provides attendees with the specialized knowledge to care for the most common injuries sustained by the rodeo athlete -- including acute care and late reconstruction, as well as preventive methods to limit injury among rodeo athletes.
According to Dr. George, the course provides valuable insight into common injuries and conditions affecting the rodeo athlete for physicians, athletic trainers and healthcare personnel involved in the care of rodeo athletes in their local community.
"As team physicians for area youth groups and professional athletes like those involved in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, we're committed to education -- sharing what we've learned so that these athletes receive the best care possible wherever they live," said George.

Dr. George, who also cares for professional rodeo cowboys as a member of the Justin Sports Medicine team, served as a member of the program's faculty -- educating on the injury diagnosis and management of rodeo athletes.
The program also emphasized concussion assessment, identifying potentially serious occult injuries, delayed treatment in this patient population, preventive taping, bracing and muscle energy techniques and development of protocols for the management of life threatening injuries -- including , blunt abdominal and thoracic trauma.
Dr. George remains committed to education -- serving also as a clinical assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and a clinical instructor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Texas at Houston
He has served as the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Methodist Willowbrook Hospital and was one of the first doctors in Houston to earn the subspecialty certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.
