New Burns & McDonnell Office to Serve Richmond, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast Markets
Engineering Firm Leveraging Experience With Utilities to Grow Into Familiar Area With New Services
(firmenpresse) - RICHMOND, VA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/11/13 -- Burns & McDonnell, an employee-owned engineering, architecture, construction, environmental and consulting services firm, has opened a Richmond, Va., office to serve and attract clients in Richmond, the Mid-Atlantic region and throughout the Southeast.
Two employee-owners and three contract employees already are working in the office to manage environmental, community relations and land-acquisition projects for longtime Burns & McDonnell clients. Several additional employee-owners are expected to be hired soon in what is the firm's third office in Virginia, as new services are launched in the area and beyond.
The Richmond office is at Two Paragon Place, a growing area featuring a number of attractive professional complexes along Interstate 64. The office is near the respective headquarters of two of the firm's longtime area clients: Dominion Virginia Power, downtown; and Old Dominion Electric Cooperative, in Glen Allen.
Burns & McDonnell -- honored by the ESOP Association as 2012 ESOP Company of the Year, reflecting the firm's commitment to employee ownership through its employee stock ownership plan -- is now recruiting to fill positions specializing in environmental science, public outreach and business development, particularly with experience in transportation, oil and natural gas.
"We hope to outgrow the space in a year or two," says Shaun Tweed, a Burns & McDonnell project manager who manages the office and is leading business development. "Virginia and the southeast in general have tremendous potential. We've done a lot of work in the area. It only makes sense to have a permanent presence here to leverage that experience and continue to grow."
Burns & McDonnell works with Dominion Virginia Power on several fronts, ranging from encroachment resolution to environmental permitting to GIS digitation and geo-referencing. The firm previously handled routing, engineering, surveying and land-acquisition services for the utility on installation of a 60-mile electric transmission line from Carson to Suffolk, a project to meet rising demand in south Hampton Roads and the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Burns & McDonnell also supports Old Dominion Electric Cooperative through permitting, licensing, public relations and public engagement activities associated with plans for a new power plant in the area.
