Imtech: European 43 million euro traffic technology orders
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Gouda - Royal Imtech N.V. (technical services provider in and outside Europe)
announces that it recently secured orders worth more than 43 million euro for
the high-tech technical infrastructure in a double-deck tunnel in Maastricht, as
well as for upgrading and improvement of the current traffic infrastructure in
Stockholm, Moscow, Dublin and Copenhagen.
René van Bruggen, CEO Imtech: 'Imtech's smart traffic technology solutions are
allowing it to contribute to better traffic management in Europe which will
improve traffic flow as well as the safety of road users. Our footprint in
Europe is growing.'
Double-deck tunnel for Maastricht
In Maastricht in the Netherlands is 'The Green Carpet' (De Groene Loper) - a
tunnel of almost 2.3 kilometers, which is part of the A2 motorway - under
construction. It will be the first double-deck tunnel in the Netherlands to have
four tunnel tubes - two above and two below with two traffic lanes each. 80% of
the current traffic volume will run underground, which will considerably improve
traffic flow and traffic safety. This tunnel is the first to be built according
to the new Dutch 'tunnel standard'. Together with Strukton and Ballast Nedam
(who jointly form Avenue 2), Imtech will be providing the design and
implementation of all the technical solutions (tunnel and traffic technical
installations), including the overall management, monitoring and control
systems.
Motorway Traffic Management and VMS technology for Stockholm
The E18 motorway in Sweden is an important road link in the northern part of
Stockholm. This road, which features two tunnels, is used daily by 50,000
vehicles. In order to improve traffic safety here, Imtech will be implementing a
high-tech Motorway Traffic Management (MTM) system. Based on a glass fibre
network, about 200 fully automated traffic signs - Variable Message Signs (VMS)
- will provide the traffic with up-to-date traffic information and instructions.
The same applies to the information displays to be placed in and outside the
tunnels.
Improving traffic mobility in Moscow
The Russian city of Moscow is working on improving traffic mobility. Existing
infrastructure such as traffic control centres, glass fibre networks and
intelligent traffic controllers are being upgraded. The purpose of the
intelligent traffic control upgrade is to prepare the implementation of an
adaptive traffic management system. Following two successful pilot programmes,
Imtech was commissioned to supply 200 high-tech traffic controllers. This will
be the first phase of continued development planned for the coming years.
Additional orders in Dublin and Copenhagen
In 2012 Imtech secured a multiyear maintenance contract with the City of Dublin
to maintain and manage the availability of the city's traffic signal services.
Following its success on this contract, Imtech has seen a number of new orders
in Ireland including the maintenance of the technical traffic infrastructure at
Dublin airport and an operational contract for the technical infrastructure on
the iconic Samuel Beckett Bridge in Dublin. In 2012 Imtech was commissioned to
provide the technical maintenance of the infrastructure for all 365
intersections in Copenhagen and to supply a high-tech traffic management system
aimed at making the Danish capital fully CO2 neutral by 2025. In addition, new
orders have been received for supplying a high-tech Road Monitoring System,
installing Imtech's own ImFlow technology at ten intersections, cooperative
communication between buses and traffic controllers and prioritisation of cycle
traffic.
