UNIT4's Coda Mind Meld Survey Shows Only 56 Percent of Employees Using All of Their Vacation Time

ID: 219566

84 percent of workers cite primary reason is that current work responsibilities pinch downtime; about one-third take only half of granted time off, says survey of 120 organizations in U.S., Canada and Europe

(firmenpresse) - VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA and MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE -- (Marketwire) -- 01/15/13 -- UNIT4 (EURONEXT AMSTERDAM: UNIT4) , the cloud-focused business software and services provider for Businesses Living in Change (BLINC) ™, announced today the result of its second Coda Mind Meld Survey, a twice yearly poll taken of global financial and business executives in Coda's customer base, for the purpose of uncovering interesting new trends in the software market. Coda Financials is the world's leading best-of-class financial solution and is in use today by more than 2,850 mid-sized and large organizations. The most recent poll, completed by 120 financial software users in North America and Europe, had almost half of the respondents in the mid-market ($100 million to $1 billion in annual revenue), 33 percent with revenue below $100 million and 21 percent from large market $1 billion+ organizations.

Only a little more than half (56 percent) of the respondents say they are able to use all of their allotted annual vacation time, of which 94 percent received time off of three weeks or more annually. By far the number one reason (84 percent) cited for unused vacation was that the respondents were "too busy with current (work) responsibilities." An additional 13 percent cited inadequate staffing coverage and 3 percent said the reason was tied to concerns about job security and downsizing.

"We certainly see the ongoing trend that organizations are trying to do more with less - and that often means using productivity tools to accomplish more work with fewer employees," said Shelley Zapp, CEO of UNIT4 North America. "Technology allows employees to do more than they ever could achieve before but the new economic realities require new approaches to analysis, reporting and ongoing support for business change - like compliance with new regulations and standards. Today, companies have streamlined repetitive tasks, but they also balance requirements to constantly assess new global competition. The world moves very fast now and reaction speed is paramount. It's understandable that employees feel that even a few weeks off a year might put them at a disadvantage."

Additional questions posed included pulse checks on whether organizations were doing GAAP vs. IFRS financial reporting (more than half to three quarters are doing GAAP only) and quantifying the number of analytic systems in play in organizations (more than two-thirds are using multiple tools).

An has been created showing the highlights from the survey.
