Associates in Plastic Surgery Discuss Recovery From Breast Augmentation, New Jersey
(firmenpresse) - EDISON, NJ -- (Marketwire) -- 01/15/13 -- While a breast augmentation can provide excellent results for most women, there are several considerations that should be taken into account prior to undergoing the procedure.
To make sure female patients are fully prepared for their operation, Dr. Shain Cuber, who performs , has compiled a list of common questions and answers to assist them in recovering as comfortably as possible.
Exercise should be abstained from for at least three weeks following surgery. After that, patients can slowly return to their normal routines with caution during exercises that target or involve the chest muscles.
For the tissues to heal properly, they require a healthy, oxygenated blood supply. Smoking causes the blood vessels to constrict, which lowers the blood and oxygen supply to the surgical site. For this reason, most surgeons recommend patients refrain from smoking five weeks prior to surgery and may resume a couple of weeks after.
Most surgeons recommend patients take several days off work following the procedure. If their job doesn't require heavy lifting, one week off should be sufficient. Strenuous activities should be avoided for the first few weeks, so they should discuss the demands of the workplace with their surgeon to ensure an appropriate amount of time off has been requested.
The patient is usually able to drive one week after surgery if they are no longer taking any pain medications.
It is suggested that patients with young children make arrangements for someone to assist them with caring for them during the first week.
"Patients who adhere to their surgeon's instructions often have a more comfortable recovery," said Cuber. "It is important to remember that the patient just underwent surgery and the body needs to heal. They should take it easy and not hesitate to contact the surgeon with any concerns."
