Derek Tullett joins London Hong Kong Exchange Plc as Executive Chairman
London, 15 June 2010, London Hong Kong Exchange Plc (“LHKX”) announces that Derek Tullett CBE Hon DSc will join LHKX as Executive Chairman of the Board. Mr Tullett brings a unique background as an outstanding leader and entrepreneur in the international brokerage industry. From 1971 to 2006, Mr Tullett oversaw his brokerage firm grow from small beginnings as Tullett & Riley to global status as second largest brokerage in the world.
Mr Derek Tullett has a successful 50 year career in the City of London. Mr Tullett started his career as a money broker with Savage & Heath in 1956 becoming a partner in 1960. In 1971 Mr Tullett founded wholesale and foreign exchange broker Tullett & Riley. In 1983, The Tokyo Forex Company acquired a significant stake in Tullett & Riley which became Tullett & Tokyo Forex International Ltd. In 1999, Tullett & Tokyo merged with Liberty Brokerage to create one of the world’s largest inter-dealer brokers. In 2000, Tullett & Tokyo Liberty was rebranded Tullett Liberty Plc and Mr Tullett appointed as Chairman. In March 2003 Tullett Liberty was acquired by Collins Stewart plc and the group became Collins Stewart Tullett Plc and Mr Tullett was appointed President of Tullett Plc. In October of 2004 Collins Stewart Tullett acquired Prebon Yamane. In December 2006, Collins Stewart Tullett was demerged into Collins Stewart Plc and Tullett Prebon Plc. Mr Tullett retired in 2004.
From 1974 – 1986, Mr Tullett was a member of the Bank of England’s Joint Standing Committee. In 1982 he was made a Freeman of the City of London. From 1984 to 1986, Mr Tullett held the position as Deputy Chairman and Chairman of the Forex and Currency Deposits Brokers Association. Since 2005, Mr Tullett has held a number of board appointments inclusive: Chairman of Blue Systems Plc, non-executive Director of Betbrokers Plc, and non-executive Chairman of Spectron Group Plc.
In the Queen’s 1997 New Year’s Honours List, Mr Tullett was awarded a CBE and in 2004 he was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Science by The City University (London). Mr Tullett is currently active on behalf of several City of London organisations and charitable causes.
As Executive Chairman of LHKX, Mr Tullett will be heavily involved in guiding LHKX’s strategic development and his wealth of experience across in the international brokerage industry will be invaluable in helping LHKX to redefine the trading and investment products made available to retail class investors. Mr Tullett will help the LHKX leadership team to deliver an efficient, effective and profitable proposition with a strong focus on the needs of the retail investor.
