The company has also awarded a $500 scholarship to a team of developers, led by Brent Baumgartner, a first year CS student at the University of Virginia, who proposed the best idea for an app built on top of SheerID's platform and REST API, at the conference's hackathon.
SheerID's point-of-sale verification technology confirms whether a consumer is a member of a special interest group, such as the military, teachers or students. This lets the enterprise automatically grant a discount upon verification. SheerID's service acts as a bridge between a retailer's shopping cart and any secure database.
