If you have dimmers, set them to the lowest light possible. If you don't have dimmers and can't afford new , unscrew some of the bulbs. Instead, dress up your table in pretty linens and napkins. Top it off with your best place settings, and wine or champagne glasses (even if you're only drinking sparkling cider!).
You don't need to spend extra money to make your table the center of attention. Pick some fresh flowers and put them in a pretty vase. Find three or four clear glass jars, fill them with red and pink candies and place them around a dinner candle. Find a cake stand with a glass cover and fill it full of flower petals.
This is not the time to stress out over a new recipe. Stick with a tried and true favorite, a simple spaghetti dinner with a few breadsticks, or just order some Chinese takeout (just be sure to toss the boxes and put it in your prettiest dishes).
