E910.28 requires few external components
With the E910.28 ELMOS presents a step down controller with high
efficiency. It can achieve an efficiency of up to 95%. Due to the usage of
a PFM controller the chip delivers an excellent efficiency and at low load
the chip has an extreme low current consumption of typ 20µA. This switch
controller works at an input voltage range of 5V up to 60V and delivers due
to the maximum possible 100% duty cycle output voltages of 250mV close to
the input voltage.
These features enable a lot of possible applications, like automotive or
industrial current or voltage supply, controllable amplifiers for highly
variable loads, processor supply or even high performance LED driver for
dimmable displays.
Regarding the usage there are barely no limits due to the wide input
voltage and the control of eternal mosfets with synchrony alignment. Beside
the wide application range focus was set on minimal external components, so
the system costs can be kept low. In addition to the standard devices only
7 discrete components are needed for all functions.
The high switch frequency (>300kHz) enables small external components.
Highest rate of flexibility is achieved by the use of a shunt, which
determines the voltage output maximum. The converter performance depends on
external components and can reach a few ten watt.
The internal controller current can be switched - depending on the demand -
between 200mV for current controllers and 1.2V for voltage regulators. As
an alternative the reference voltage is supplied by an external source,
e.g. a D/A converter. The signal 'power good' can also be used as a reset
signal for a micro controller. In addition the integrated circuit has a
shift able watchdog input and can switch off the output voltage if a
watchdog cycle fails.
The chip has manifold safety features (under voltage, over current and over
temperature) and works at ambience temperatures of -40°C up to +125°C.
The E910.28 is offered in a TSSOP24EP package.
