Texas Driver Agrees to Settle $62,000 in Toll Fees
(firmenpresse) - DALLAS, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 02/20/13 -- The Beltz Law Firm, a Dallas-based law firm specializing in traffic ticket cases, personal injuries and criminal law, has announced pending settlements involving toll charges and fees levied by the NTTA (North Texas Tollway Authority) against several clients, one of which involved a whopping $62,857 in charges and fees. The amount has been negotiated down to a fraction of what was owed and the firm has also reached a settlement in another case involving an amount totaling nearly $30,000.
These recent settlement offers highlight the growing problem of excessive penalties and fees administered by the NTTA, which are often exponentially higher than the original amounts owed for toll violations.
"We're seeing an alarming trend where North Texas drivers are getting hit with collection notices demanding payment for toll violations that are hundreds of percent higher than what they are actually responsible for," said Jeffrey Beltz, founder and partner of The Beltz Law Firm.
"These accounts are then sent to collection attorneys who often intimidate individuals into paying these exorbitant fees," he added.
Beltz says he is not advocating drivers avert their responsibility as toll payers, but would like to see excessive NTTA penalties and fees reigned in through legislative efforts.
