MediClin AG: Group sales increased to EUR 509.7 mill., preliminary Group
operating result amounts to EUR 4.3 mill.
Offenburg, March 1, 2013 - In the 2012 financial year MEDICLIN
Aktiengesellschaft (MediClin) achieved Group sales in the amount of EUR
509.7 mill. (2011: 493.6 Mio. Euro) which is EUR 16.1 mill. above previous
year's value. The preliminary Group operating result amounts to EUR 4.3
mill. (2011: EUR 12.6 mill.). The Group operating result is burdened in
2012 by higher other operating expenses, special items and one-time effects
towards the end of the year in the range of EUR 2.8 million and higher
staff costs. The preliminary result attributable to shareholders of
MediClin AG accounts for EUR -1.4 mill. (2011: EUR 3.1 mill.).
In 2012 nearly 2.6 million nursing days were provided and more than 121
thousand cases were treated. In the Group the occupancy was 86.3% clearly
above the previous year's figure (2011: 84.8%).
The number of staff, calculated on the basis of full-time staff, increased
on an annual average by 157 employees and was on average in 2012 at 6,256
full-time employees (2011: 6,099 full-time employees).
EUR 27.3 mill. (gross capital expenditure) were invested in 2012 (2011:
EUR 29.9 mill.). The cashflow from operating activities amounts to EUR 16.2
mill. (2011: EUR 15.6 mill.).
On the cost side raw materials and consumables used increased only slightly
up to EUR 111.2 mill. The cost of materials ratio decreased to 21.8% (2011:
22.4%) due to increased sales. Staff costs increased by EUR 13.4 mill. up
to EUR 290.4 mill. The staff costs ratio is 57.0% (2011: 56.1%). Other
operating expenses amounted to EUR 94.5 mill. (2011: EUR 89.3 mill.) and
were above last years value due to higher rental and leasing expenses,
higher repair and maintenance and higher legal and advisory costs.
Despite higher occupancy in both segments post-acute and acute the segment
results were below last year
EUR 13.7 mill. out of EUR 16.1 mill. sales increase applied to the
post-acute segment. Sales of the acute segment decreased slightly by EUR
0.7 mill. The result of the post-acute segment lies at EUR 2.6 mill. (2011:
EUR 2.8 mill.) due to a strong decrease in occupancy at the end of the
year. The acute segment result decreased to EUR 7.2 mill. from EUR 15,5
mill. because additional services were not or not totally compensated and
especially staff costs increased compared to last year. The development of
the business field nursing care was very satisfying, sales increased by EUR
1.1 mill. to EUR13.1 mill. The occupancy was at 96.2% (2011: 94.7%).
