GS Inima Selects Aconex for Spain's Largest Sewage Biofiltration Plant
Green Project Will Expand and Modernize Sewage Treatment Facility

(firmenpresse) - MADRID, SPAIN -- (Marketwire) -- 03/12/13 -- , provider of the world's most widely used solutions for the infrastructure, construction, power, mining, and oil and gas industries, today announced its selection by to service the EUR 136.74-million Lagares project in Vigo, Spain. GS Inima is a member of the joint venture UTE EDAR de LAGARES-VIGO, which is managing the project.
The Lagares project will create the largest biofiltration sewage treatment plant in Spain. All firms involved in the design and construction of the plant will use the cloud-based Aconex collaboration platform to manage all project information, communications and processes throughout the length of the project.
Enrique Morillo, construction director at GS Inima, said: "All parties involved in the joint venture have their own internal processes to manage. However, we require an independent system dedicated to the project -- a common platform where all project-related information and workflows can be shared. Aconex provides a neutral and secure platform which all members of the project team -- including firms coming on board at a later stage -- will access while still controlling their own information."
With an initial sewage treatment capacity of 147,000 cubic meters a day, the new plant will serve a population of 800,000. The project will involve both expansion and modernization of the facility to improve space utilization and operational flexibility. Biofiltration technology will be implemented to treat waste water for compliance with environmental safety standards. Specifically, it will minimize the release of organic material to prevent pollution of the local estuary and control the odor of sewage.
Morillo added: "This is a complex project involving the deployment of advanced technology. To ensure its success, we require a seamless flow of information, especially during critical phases such as the transition from design to construction. Aconex enables us to track document revisions so that we all work with the latest version, which will mitigate delays and disputes."
Hervé Hamelin, general manager of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at Aconex, said: "Despite a challenging construction market in Spain, as well as across Europe, we've seen an uptake of Aconex for mega-projects such as the Lagares plant. Budgets are tight, and construction firms understand that a reliable online collaboration solution can help them significantly reduce risk and increase return on their projects."
