Democracy and school after John Dewey (e-book) - Danka Todorova
John Dewey (1859 - 1952) is considered to be the 'America's greatest teacher', as the 'philosopher of America' and the leading representatives of the international educational reform. He is included among the greatest philosophers of all time education.
(firmenpresse) - With his conception he has the North American education and school system throughout the 20th Century lasting impression. Dewey as a thinker has influenced education and education systems of countries around the world. With Dewey's conception for the 20th Century, a pragmatic theory of schools is presented. The philosophical foundations of his ‘school of democracy’ open our eyes to us for a political variant of the institution of the school. At the same time shows us the Dewey that education and schools depend on a basic philosophy of education. The theme of 'Democracy and school' requires a different concept of democracy than our usual, limited to political structures. According to Dewey Democracy is more than a mere form of government. For him it is rather the appropriate form of a free and social human society, in which man finds his individual form and shape thanks to this form of the democratic way of life and helps shapes, also. In the workplace and at school Thus democracy is' just a name for the fact that human nature is developed only when their members participate to draw the things that are common things the sake of which men and women form groups, families, businesses, governments, churches, scientific associations, etc. '
Education is not only the instrument of implementation of Dewey's conception of democracy, she finally falls together with democracy itself.
