All New Cars Will Be Connected to the Internet by 2014
Increased investment in in-car technology will change our driving experience, says Quote Me Today

(firmenpresse) - LEEDS, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwired) -- 04/10/13 -- Expert motor trade insurance broker Quote Me Today predicts the growing investment in 'connected cars' will change our future driving experience after an announcement by information company IHS that all new 'big brand' cars will incorporate internet technology by 2014.
According to the BBC, Intel expects to invest GBP 64 million over the next five years into companies that will speed up the development of 'connected car' technology.
Quote Me Today explains that internet-enabled cars would allow drivers to use apps as part of their driving experience - for example, to find petrol stations with cheaper prices or parking spaces in major cities. Electronic sensors could be used to identify free parking spaces and this information could be fed to the app user's car via the internet.
According to Intel, the 'connected car' is the third fastest growing technological device after phones and tablets but Quote Me Today warns that safety must take priority in this transformation of the driving experience since concerns have been raised about internet use creating distractions by absorbing drivers in an 'experience' and making them forget that they are driving.
Since 2003 it has been illegal to use mobiles devices while driving and car manufacturers must now find ways to make in-car internet use safe. One solution could be to put a greater focus on voice commands in order to limit searching and button pushing.
emphasises, however, that in-car technology could actually be used to make our driving experience safer. Under EU plans, by 2015 all new cars will be fitted with a mandatory sensor that will call the emergency services in case of an accident.
While responsible driving includes safe use of mobile devices, it also includes having an adequate insurance policy. provides immediate cover for commercial vehicles and competitive rates for companies who buy, sell, repair or valet vehicles. All policies are tailor-made to match the needs of your business and provide protection against material damage, road risks and third-party damage.
