INTERGEO– the world's leading trade fair for geodesy, geoinformation and land management, 2010, Cologne

ID: 25048

Karlsruhe/Cologne, 31 August 2010. INTERGEO 2009, the world's leading trade fair for geodesy, geoinformation and land management, attracted more than 475 exhib-iting companies from 30 countries and over 16,000 visitors, 22 percent of whom were from abroad. INTERGEO is thus not only the fulcrum for everyone involved in the core disciplines it represents, it is also a magnet for companies and institutions from countless related disciplines. The 16th staging of this international event will take place at the Kölnmesse exhibition centre in Cologne from 5 to 7 October, 2010. If 2009 is anything to go by, there is no doubt that “Geo is in!” – on a global scale. Companies and institutions from 30 countries presented industry innovations and once again highlighted the areas in which geoinformation is now indispensable. In the real estate and banking sector, and in the areas of telecommunications, insur-ance and municipal facilities, more and more branches of industry are accessing information from the geo sector – a global trend which is on the up. This trend is also reflected in the visitor statistics from last year: 22 percent of trade fair visitors from 54 countries travelled from abroad to the international congress trade fair in Karlsruhe to gather information, exchange ideas, make new contacts, renew exist-ing ones and make purchase decisions.

The climate is changing! This is also an important consideration for town planning. July 2010 will enter the record books as the hottest July in Germany since records began. There was no discernible drop in temperature at night and a good night's sleep was hard to come by in many places. Ultimately, the extra strain on the human body caused by this heatwave led to a 50 percent increase in deaths. Climate researchers are already talking about an "invisible natural disaster", and while unusually high temperatures are being recorded in some regions, others are experiencing atypically high levels of snowfall. Only by researching these ever more visible changes can we acquire the knowledge necessary to act on a global scale. In the long term, towns and cities must rethink and adapt their building strategies to these changes. In 2010, the INTERGEO conference will therefore focus on the outcome and inferable consequences of humankind's interaction with the environment.
As the world's leading trade fair and conference for geodesy, geoinformation and land management, INTERGEO is the only event to cover the entire breadth and depth of the industry spectrum of current and forward-looking products, technologies and system solutions. The trade fair and conference cover all of the important trends in evidence along the value-added chain, from gathering and processing geo-based information to systems-integrated applications.

International driving force for the industry

Today, geoinformation provides the basis for management decisions in matters relating to politics, welfare and business. As the fulcrum of a dynamic international market, INTERGEO has links with all areas, providing impetus for innovations and driving the integration of geo-based solutions in new lines of business, too. Participants are not only able to enter into dialogue at the three-day trade fair and conference. Networked industry communication is possible 365 days a year through the industry portal GEOzone365, the event website, a wide spectrum of print and online media, and INTERGEO TV.

Conference to focus on "environmental information as a currency for environmental protection"

Among other things, the 2010 INTERGEO conference will focus on the latest innovations in environmental protection. The international conference on information technology for environmental protection will take place alongside INTERGEO at the Kölnmesse exhibition centre on 6 October. Industry professionals will then meet in Bonn on 7 and 8 October. The highlights of the three-day INTERGEO conference programme include the daily plenary sessions with guest speakers Professor Udo di Fabio, a judge at the German Federal Constitutional Court, Jack Dangermond, the founder and president of ESRI and FIG president, Professor Stig Enemark.

"Made in Germany" innovations

INTERGEO's innovation park and OSGeoPark dedicated areas provide an ideal platform to get to know new start-up companies, with their "made in Germany" innovations, and to network. The excellent response to start-ups in Karlsruhe in 2009 underlines the high level of interest from exhibitors and visitors in experiencing the many new products and services at a single venue and having direct contact with each other. The significance of the INTERGEO platform and industry innovations also emphasises the level of support given by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology to start-ups.
