Huntington Learning Center Strives to Instill Perseverance in Its Students
(firmenpresse) - ORADELL, NJ -- (Marketwired) -- 04/24/13 -- Huntington Learning Center stated this week that students need more than to succeed. Aptitudes advocated by the U.S. Department of Education such as tenacity and perseverance are essential to help students become resilient, intrinsic, lifelong learners.
Referring to the recently drafted report by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Education and Technology, "Promoting Grit, Tenacity and Perseverance: Critical Factors for Success in the 21st Century," Huntington's founder and chairman, Dr. Raymond Huntington, stated that the learning center considers such skills key to students' success in school, college and life.
"While our goal at Huntington is to help students build the skills they need to improve their grades, reach their academic potential and become better students, we also believe strongly in encouraging students to think critically, explore new and different ideas and set big goals for themselves," said Dr. Huntington. "We as parents and educators must come together to support students' acquisition of such non-cognitive aptitudes."
The U.S. Department of Education publication puts forth concurring ideas about grit, tenacity and perseverance, stating, "Importantly, we are deliberate not to treat these factors as residing only within the student -- it is the responsibility of the educational community to design learning environments that promote these factors so that students are prepared to meet 21st-century challenges," and also that "research evidence suggests that these factors can be just as important as intellectual abilities for success."
