•Alexium clears early development milestone on 50/50 Nylon/cotton blends

•Moving to discussion on licensing with potential licensees

•Alexium’s flame retardant (FR) chemicals for nylon blends will be introduced to the market under the Nycolon™ trade name

•Nycolon™ aimed at one of the most lucrative market opportunity in the US and worldwide textile industry.

•Nycolon™ to be specifically designated for FR treatment for nylon blends.

•Adds to the Ascalon™ trade name for 95%+ Nylon FR fabrics

Perth, WA and Greer, South Carolina, Alexium International Group Limited (Alexium) (ASX:AJX, AX:AJX, OTC QX:AXXIY) announced today several development breakthroughs on flame retardant (FR) treatments for nylon blends, as well as the introduction of the Nycolon™ trade name for these FR treatments.

Alexium has cleared an early development milestone of Nycolon™, producing a wash-durable, self-extinguishing FR treatment on printed 50/50 nylon/cotton fabric. The 50/50 NyCo fabric treated with the Nycolon™ treatment does not melt or drip when exposed to flame tests. Encouraged by these early results and speed of development, Alexium will continue refining the treatment and conduct extensive tests to address all military performance requirements. Some of this work is currently being performed under contract with the Marine Corps via Alexium’s affiliate and development partner Alexium Government Solutions.

Nycolon™ is aimed at one of the most lucrative opportunities in the United States and worldwide textile industry: a durable topical FR treatment for the 50/50 Nylon/Cotton combat uniforms. Over 2 million US soldiers are issued 50/50 NyCo garments as standard issue fatigue uniforms. Alexium estimates a market potential of 27 million yards to supply US military users. Other global markets and commercial applications, such as industrial work wear and first responders, are expected to add additional volume exceeding an additional 50 million yards.

“We are quite pleased with the pace in which this stage of development was reached and very encouraged to accelerate this work. Adding the Nycolon™ trademark to our portfolio will allow us to effectively distinguish and market our products between 95% Nylon and Nylon blends such as Nylon/Cotton.” stated Stefan Susta, Alexium’s Chief Operating Officer.

The Nycolon™ trade name is specifically designated for flame retardant treatments of nylon blends. Analogous to the Ascalon™ treatment on 95% nylon fabrics, where Duro Textiles LLC is our licensee partner for North America, Alexium will be seeking partners for commercial roll-out this year and anticipates product revenues to grow via licensing agreements.
