Quarterly Group result below previous year's value - the Management Board
still focusses on the expansion of indication with strong growth
Offenburg, May 3rd, 2013 - In the first three months of FY 2013 MEDICLIN
Aktiengesellschaft (MediClin) has achieved Group sales of EUR 124.5 mill.
(Q1 2012: EUR 125.4 mill.) and was therefore EUR 0.9 mill. or 0.7 % below
the figure of the first quarter 2012. The quarterly comparison showed sales
in the post-acute segment of EUR 70.7 mill. at the same level as last year.
In the acute segment sales was EUR 49.6 mill., which was EUR 1.0 mill.
below the value of 2012 (Q1 2012: EUR 50.6 mill.). The business area
nursing care reports with EUR 3.3 mill. an EUR 0.1 mill. higher sales.
On a quarterly comparison mainly increased personnel costs due to an
increase in number of staff and higher material costs could not be
compensated by higher sales therefore the Group operating result was EUR
-5.9 mill. (Q1 2012: EUR -0.8 mill.). The segment result post-acute was EUR
-4.2 mill. (Q1 2012: EUR -1.7 mill.) and in the acute segment EUR 0.1 mill.
(Q1 2012: EUR 2.4 mill.) was achieved.
The quarterly result attributable to the shareholders of MediClin accounts
for EUR -6.5 mill. (Q1 2012: EUR -2.0 mill.). The un-/diluted earnings per
share were EUR -0.14 Euro (Q1 2012: EUR -0,04) for the first three months
of 2013
On Group level compared to the previous year's quarter the number of
nursing days decreased from 631,013 days to 607,309 days (-3.8 %) and the
number of cases from 30,513 cases to 29,154 Fälle (-4.5 %), in which the
number of nursing days in the acute segment slightly increased and in the
business area nursing care stayed on a high level nearly unchanged.
In the first three months of 2013 about EUR 4.8 mill. (Q1 2012: EUR 6.5
mill.) were invested in fixed assets (brutto). Another EUR 4.2 mill. (Q1
2012: EUR 4.0 mill.) were spent for service and maintenance. As of March
31, 2013 cash and cash equivalents were EUR 10.0 mill. (31.12.2012: EUR
22.9 mill.) and the equity ratio was 48.1 % (31.12.2012: 49.1 %).
MediClin employed on average 6,352 employees, calculated on the basis of
full-time staff, in the first quarter of 2013, 197 employees more than on
average in the first quarter of 2012.
Outlook
The Management Board continues the restructuring measures, started midyear
2012, to align the clinics to the changing market conditions. The decrease
in occupancy at the turn of the year could be stopped. The current
occupancy has already reached the level of the previous year.
MediClin will invest in medical areas, which promise an increase in demand.
The demand for medical services is significantly influenced by the
demographic development and its requirements.
As regards to the business development of the current financial year, the
outlook given so far will retain at this juncture.
The interim report as of March 31, 2013 will be available in German and
English from May 15, 2013 under www.mediclin.de.
