Attendees at the upcoming Compliance Week 2013 conference will hear best practices and lessons learned from some of the world's leading experts in compliance, risk, governance, and ethical leadership under pressure, Compliance Week announced today. The conference (Twitter: #CW2013) runs May 20-22 in Washington, D.C.
The conference opens May 20 with two keynote speakers discussing the challenges of ethical leadership under difficult circumstances. Retired Maj. Gen. Lewis MacKenzie, who led U.N. peacekeeping missions in Yugoslavia, Central America, Southeast Asia and elsewhere, will offer lessons learned on maintaining a disciplined culture. Ed Breen, non-executive chairman and former CEO of Tyco International, will offer views on rebuilding a strong ethical culture at that corporation after misconduct scandals in the early 2000s sent the prior CEO to prison and left Breen with a company at the brink of collapse.
"We're delighted to offer two keynote speakers of this caliber, because exercising leadership is really the chief compliance officer's primary challenge," Compliance Week Editor Matt Kelly said. "These men had to persevere through extremely difficult circumstances and keep their teams focused on far-off goals, which is exactly what compliance officers do daily as well."
Additionally, Compliance Week 2013 will offer panels to inform and inspire attendees on specific compliance challenges, including anti-corruption, privacy, financial reporting and more. The panels will feature dozens of experts offering practical tips on how to fulfill the mission of compliance, risk, and audit, such as:
