Educational Nonprofit Supports Schools in Underprivileged Areas
(firmenpresse) - LOS ALTOS, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/15/13 -- Global Upside, Inc. has become a Gold Sponsor of City Year's Starry Starry Night 2013, to support its efforts to help under-performing students in the elementary and middle schools of San Jose, California. Global Upside CEO Ragu Bhargava has joined the Event Committee for Starry Starry Night, City Year's annual Silicon Valley gala which takes place on May 22nd.
City Year is a nonprofit organization that sends young volunteers, aged between 17 and 24, into schools where there are high numbers of children at risk of dropping out. Founded in 1988, City Year has grown steadily and is now active in 24 urban communities in the US and South Africa. Last year, 54 City Year Corps Members gave 98,000 hours of service in San Jose schools, and 100% of teachers in those schools said the academic performance of targeted school children improved as a result of work by the City Year Corps Members.
Global Upside is supporting City Year as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program. The Global Upside CSR program focuses on activities supporting education and young people.
