ID: 263871

(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, UNITED STATES and MONTREAL, CANADA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/28/13 -- Cognistat is pleased to announce the introduction of a new screening tool for risk assessment of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and Dementia. The Cognistat MCI Index© is a rapid cognitive screening tool for use by clinicians in determining the risk for cognitive decline in adults. The MCI Index is the first cognitive assessment instrument to incorporate a sophisticated clinical-based algorithm based on a patient's performance on tests for Memory and Constructions and incorporating adjustments for age and education. The index provides a risk assessment that enables physicians to better diagnose Mild Cognitive Impairment in its earliest stages.

The Cognistat MCI Index is the fourth product in Cognistat's catalogue of cognitive assessment tools. The original Cognistat Paper test was introduced in 1977 and has become the most widely used screening tool used by North American neuropsychologists. It is available in eleven languages and is used worldwide. The Cognistat Assessment System and Cognistat Active Form are computer-assisted versions of the original Paper test and are designed to interface with electronic medical records, facilitate the monitoring of patients on repeat testing and provide a paper-free environment. Both the Assessment System and the Active Form will now incorporate the MCI Index in their reports.

Dr. Ralph Kiernan, Chief Scientific Officer, and one of the original developers of Cognistat said, "We are pleased to be able to bring this product before the clinical community and research world. It offers the advantage of a sophisticated computer-based algorithm yet preserves the clinician-patient relationship." Mr. Parsa Famili, President and CEO of Cognistat said "Our goal is to provide cost-effective rapid computer-assisted screening tools for healthcare professionals. We have a substantial customer base and foresee a growing need for these products in aging populations throughout the world."

Cognistat Inc. is a privately held company based in San Francisco and Montreal with sales offices in North and South America, Europe and Asia.
