Transmode extends operators' network agility with enhanced Ethernet Muxponders
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Stockholm, Sweden - 30(th) May 2013 - Transmode, a global supplier of packet-
optical networking solutions, today announced the availability of the company's
enhanced Ethernet Muxponders that extend the company's Native Packet Optical
2.0 architecture. These allow network operators to enhance the capabilities of
their packet-optical networks to create ever more agile and scalable networks.
As deployments of packet-optical networks have continued to rapidly grow in
Transmode's customer base and the industry at large, Transmode has added new
enhanced Ethernet Muxponders to the company's portfolio to provide operators
with extended networking capabilities. The new enhanced Ethernet Muxponders
(EMXP IIe) units are a key component of Transmode's Native Packet Optical 2.0
architecture and can coexist with the other Ethernet Muxponders (EMXP II)
available from Transmode to allow operators to smoothly add the extended
capabilities to existing or planned deployments.
The new units run the same software suite as the original EMXP II units and
therefore support industry leading features such as MPLS-TP, IGMPv3 and all the
Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) defined Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE2.0) services. The
EMXP IIe units add optional OTN transport to all 10G ports providing optional
standard and enhanced Forward Error Correction (FEC) to allow operators to span
longer optical links and also enabling tighter integration with OTN core
networks in addition to Ethernet and MPLS core networks. With the increased
switching capabilities, the units are highly applicable for demanding
applications such as Business Ethernet services that demand a large number of
services per device.
"Transmode's Native Packet Optical architecture has proven to be highly popular
with our customer base and Transmode is a leader in Metro-Edge Packet-Optical
systems, with industry analysts Infonetics Research placing the company 4th
globally and 2nd in EMEA in the category," said Sten Nordell, Transmode's Chief
Technology Officer. "The new EMXP IIe units are a key development in our
solutions and will greatly extend the range of capabilities available to these
customers allowing them to create the most advanced networks and services."
The enhanced EMXP IIe units extend the Native Packet Optical 2.0 architecture
but maintain the core strengths of packet awareness, low latency, almost zero
jitter and superior sync performance necessary for transport applications such
as Ethernet services, mobile backhaul and video distribution. Initially two new
EMXP IIe units are available in addition to the existing four EMXP II units. The
new EMXP IIe units are initially available with 22x 1G + 4x 10G ports or
12x 10G ports and provide a roadmap to 100G Layer 2 Ethernet Muxponder
capabilities.
