(firmenpresse) - SCALFARO PIERO LAVERDA 750 SFC WATCH EDITION
Watch manufacturer Scalfaro – Contemporary Luxury and Mr. Piero Laverda – son of the founder of Moto Laverda – jointly developed a limited edition of mechanical wristwatches featuring original parts from the legendary Laverda SFC 750 motorcycle.
Piero Laverda and the owners of Scalfaro Watches – brothers Alexander Kuhnle and Dominik Kuhnle – met at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in which Piero Laverda took part with a 750 SFC and the Scalfaro Classic Racing Team with a Laverda 1000cc. Based on their common passion for engineering, mechanics and motorsport the group of enthusiasts soon developed the idea of creating a special edition of mechanical watches bringing to life the spirit of the legendary Laverda 750 SFC on the wrist.
Having worked with high-tech ceramics for years, the Scalfaro team developed their innovative technology of “Scalfaro Ceramic Intarsia” integrating high-tech ceramics in its sophisticated stainless steel watch cases. The Scalfaro Ceramic Intarsia technique perfectly unites traditional craftsmanship with the latest technological achievements.
Thanks to the personal dedication of Mr. Piero Laverda who was strongly involved in the creation of this edition, we were able to obtain one of the rare race-proven original pistons of a 750 SFC from the first production series. Our team of engineers went on to create a world premiere for this special edition of watches by integrating metal parts from this original 750 SFC piston into the Scalfaro Ceramic Intarsia elements of the watch case. As a result, each watch from this special edition contains genuine “DNA” from the Laverda 750 SFC and therefore represents a direct link to its fascinating history. Piero Laverda’s signature on the side of the watch-case underlines the originality of this limited edition.
The 750 SFC (Super Freni Competizione) boasts an impressive racing career with countless victories on the world’s most prominent racetracks such as Imola, Monza and Zandvoort. The 750 SFC virtually dominated the international endurance race circuit in the early 1970s. Today, due to its timeless elegance, functional and aggressive beauty, mean sound and great racing record, the 750 SFC is regarded as one of motorcycle history’s true icons. The 750 SFC sport production racer is considered an outstanding example of industrial design of its times. It was featured in the 1999 New York Guggenheim Museum exhibition “The Art of the Motorcycle” which described it as one of the most iconic bikes of the 1970s.
Produced in three major series between 1971 and 1976, exactly 549 units of the Laverda 750 SFC left the company’s Breganze factory: Series I (1971-1973, batches 5.000/8.000/11.000, featuring Borrani wire wheels, large drum brakes, 70 hp), Series II (1974, batches 16.000/17.000, featuring a re-designed frame, modified tank shape, disc brakes and an increase to 75 hp et al.) and finally Series III called “Elettronica” (1975 to 1976, batch 18.000, featuring electronic ignition, re-designed cylinder-head, oil cooling and a number of bikes fitted with cast aluminium wheels).
All SFCs were painted bright orange. This unusual colour made the Laverdas stand out from the rest of the field, and all Laverda racers were painted orange from then on.
The “Scalfaro Piero Laverda 750 SFC“-Edition – limited to 50 pieces worldwide – offers a small group of “Laverdisti“ the chance to wear a genuine part of this legendary orange racer on their wrist.

PIERO ANTONIO LAVERDA:
Piero Laverda is the son of Dott. Francesco Laverda – founder of Moto Laverda in 1949 - and himself an accomplished mechanical engineer. He was always very much involved in the racing activities of Moto Laverda. Already as a student at Padova University Piero was actively managing the works endurance team and could always be found in the pitlane, right where the action was. After completing his studies he joined his brother Massimo in the factory as a technical engineer and from 1973 was director of production, then general manager and later managing director of Moto Laverda S.p.A. Also, from 1969 to 1975 he was team manager of the Laverda Works Racing Team. Piero still is a talented rider himself who loves to take journalists for a very fast ride through the Dolomites on his 750 SFC to show off Laverda’s superior qualities.
In 2000 Piero Laverda brought back the Laverda family collection of Racing Works Bikes and founded the “Laverda Corse” racing team (www.laverdacorse.it) which participates in numerous classic events and promotes the conservation and restoration of the Laverda motorbikes. Laverda Corse helps bring the orange racers back on the historic race tracks and develops the relationships with the Laverda clubs, owners and friends of the brand. Today Piero Laverda is the living historical memory of the Laverda Family and Moto Laverda history.
