Dr. Mohammad and His Team of Addiction Experts at Malibu Horizon Launch Marijuana Awareness Campaign for Parents on the Heels of Disturbing New Study

(firmenpresse) - MALIBU, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/31/13 -- Dr. Akikur Mohammad, Founder of Malibu Horizon, recognized by many as one of the top in California, and Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the University of Southern California, announced today that he and his team of addiction treatment experts from Malibu Horizon are encouraging parents everywhere to be on extreme alert with regard to changing laws and the ultimate trickle-down effect those relaxed laws are having on innocent children. According to a , the relaxation of marijuana laws in Colorado has caused a significant spike in the number of young children treated for accidentally eating marijuana-laced cookies, candies, brownies and beverages.

One of the world's leading marijuana addiction experts and pioneers, Dr. Mohammad said, "As Marijuana laws change, studies like this will continue to reveal disturbing and harmful trends that the public and most pro-Marijuana legislators haven't even begun to consider, and that is where the tragedy lies. As the floodgates open and the market is besieged with edible THC options like candy, cookies and beverages, innocent children are at extreme risk." Mohammad added, "Children already have a strong proclivity for putting dangerous items in their mouths; now consider the fact that these high dosage THC edibles are packaged and designed to look enticing and delicious, is it a surprise that there has been a huge spike in unintentional ingestions? This is a potentially deadly byproduct of relaxed Marijuana laws and if we don't get out in front of it and regulate packaging with child-proof technology, the fallout will be disastrous."

Dr. Mohammad and his team will add the topic to their popular town hall events, which are designed to inform the community about the options available when considering proper and effective treatment for drug and alcohol abuse. Mohammad added, "The extreme THC levels we are seeing in today's Marijuana and related edibles is far too extreme for most adults; the thought of a child mistakenly ingesting something that potent because they were attracted to its enticing and easy-to-open packaging is inexcusable. Officials aren't seeing the big picture and the fallout from that shortsightedness will negatively impact us all."
