Edmontonian Wins Prestigious National Cooking Prize

(firmenpresse) - EDMONTON, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/06/13 -- Members of 's kitchen have captured a prestigious national culinary competition for two consecutive years. Apprentice cook Myles Fedun won over competitors from Newfoundland, Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia in the 's recent culinary chef challenge.

Occurring alongside the federation's , which was held in Edmonton this year, the chef challenge features cooks and chefs who qualified to compete after winning regional competitions.

"Winning this is a humbling achievement, and would not have been possible without the support and mentorship of many people," says 22-year-old Fedun. His interest in the culinary arts was spurred by participating in the Canadian Culinary Federation's annual high school challenge while he was attending Fort Saskatchewan High. "I applied for a scholarship and it took off from there."

Fedun's victory comes on the heels of a colleague's success last year. Sous Chef took first prize in the same competition in Halifax, and will represent Canada in August at the World Association of Chefs Societies' global chef challenge in Las Vegas.

No stranger to competition, Fedun was a member of Alberta's team at last fall's World Culinary Olympics in Germany. Fedun is a Red Seal cooking graduate of the 's .
