Child labour is only part of the story for working children

(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 06/11/13 -- Tomorrow marks the World Day Against Child Labour, to recognize the millions of children engaged in work that deprives them of their rights and that is harmful to their physical and mental development.

"Far too many children are working in dangerous, exploitative situations," said Patricia Erb, President and CEO of Save the Children. "For 30 years, Save the Children has been protecting children from the most dangerous forms of work, such as sexual exploitation, but this is only part of the story of working children.

"The reality for millions of children is that they must work - to support their families or pay for their education. Those children must not be forgotten. Save the Children works with governments, businesses, and communities to ensure the rights of working children are secure."

In 2012, Save the Children partnered with UNICEF and the UN Global Compact to create the Children's Rights and Business Principles - the first comprehensive set of principles to guide companies on the full range of actions they can take in the workplace to respect and support children's rights.
