Intersection of Delaware Avenue and Penn Street, just north of Spring Garden Street
The Delaware River Waterfront Corp (DRWC) is proud to introduce the first segment of the planned 5-mile multi-modal waterfront trail that will run along the Delaware River. Running for 1400 linear feet from Spring Garden Street to Ellen Street, the trail demonstrates the high level of design quality and public realm improvement that will be used for the entire waterfront trail. Key elements of the project include:
The city's first separated on-road bicycle and pedestrian trail, which has a 12' bi-directional bikeway and 10' pedestrian walkway
Rain gardens that will collect the first inch of storm water, relieving the city sewer system during major weather events
Part of the East Coast Greenway and the Circuit, providing a crucial bicycle network connection for the city and region
Beautiful and distinctive street furniture, including benches, bike racks, and innovative solar lighting
Remarks from Mayor Michael A. Nutter; Councilman Mark Squilla; Rina Cutler, Deputy Mayor for Transportation & Utilities; Barry Seymour, Executive Director of DVRPC and Wendy Hamiton, General Manager of Sugarhouse Casino. Remarks will be followed by a ribbon-cutting and inaugural bike ride. DRWC President Thomas Corcoran will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
