Alberta Energy Regulator Responding to Sour Gas Incident in Turner Valley

(firmenpresse) - CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/20/13 -- The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is responding to a release of sour gas from a pipeline containing approximately one per cent hydrogen sulphide (H2S) outside the Town of Turner Valley. AER staff are on site and are working with the Town of Turner Valley and the responsible company, Legacy Oil and Gas Ltd.

The Town of Turner Valley has evacuated some residents as a precautionary measure. Legacy Oil and Gas has enacted its emergency response plan and is taking measures to manage the incident. The AER's air monitoring unit is on route to monitor air quality.

The information provided here is preliminary and subject to change. More details will be provided when available.

During an incident, the AER works with the company, local authority, and other provincial agencies to coordinate efficient and effective response by all parties involved. The AER expects the responsible party to respond immediately and effectively to all energy incidents and to limit impacts to the public, property, and the environment. The AER will hold the responsible party accountable for the incident and its impacts.

The Alberta Energy Regulator ensures the safe, efficient, orderly, and environmentally responsible development of hydrocarbon resources over their entire life cycle. This includes allocating and conserving water resources, managing public lands, and protecting the environment while providing economic benefits for all Albertans.
