Ministerial Message: Departure of Dr. David Butler-Jones as Canada's Chief Public Health Officer
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 06/28/13 -- I've had the pleasure of working alongside Dr. David Butler-Jones both as the Territorial Health Minister for Nunavut, and for the last 5 years, in my capacity as the federal Minister of Health. Whether it was dealing with the H1N1 pandemic or taking action on childhood obesity, Dr. Butler-Jones' professionalism and extensive knowledge were invaluable to me.
I know his decision to step down from serving in the role of Canada's Chief Public Health Officer for personal health reasons was a difficult one. But by doing so, he is once again showing his commitment to public health, and putting the best interests of Canadians first.
I am glad that Dr. Butler-Jones will continue to provide his services in an advisory role, as his expertise and experience can continue to help protect the health of Canadians for years to come.
Since his appointment as Canada's first Chief Public Health Officer in 2004, Dr. Butler-Jones has worked tirelessly to build networks with his provincial and territorial counterparts, other health agencies and organizations, as well as with officials on the international stage.
He helped build and shape the Public Health Agency of Canada into a world-class organization that is respected and admired globally.
He has set a very high bar for future Chief Public Health Officers in Canada. I want to thank David for his unwavering leadership and dedication to the public health of Canadians, and wish him all the best.
