Orange County Community Foundation Launches First Online Resource

(firmenpresse) - NEWPORT BEACH, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/01/13 -- Today, the Orange County Community Foundation (OCCF) launched its , a first-of-its-kind online resource designed to inform, inspire and engage local donors and volunteers. The free resource, found at , is launching with in-depth information on 150 local nonprofit organizations.

ConnectOC Nonprofit Central helps donors connect with nonprofits in just a few simple clicks. For people interested in getting involved in the community, Nonprofit Central provides a way for potential donors to find out more about nonprofits in Orange County and the areas of need they address. The database is part of OCCF's ConnectOC initiative launched by the foundation late last year to provide eye-opening facts and insights into the areas of greatest need in Orange County.

Visitors can search by category or keyword and find up-to-date information on programs, service area, financials, management, contacts and more. The goal is to provide a standard format that provides consistency and transparency for featured organizations.

To be included in the system, local nonprofits must be a valid 501(c)3 and file Form 990 with the IRS. Once a profile is submitted by a nonprofit, OCCF staff verifies data and approves the profile. Nonprofits have the opportunity to showcase accomplishments as well as programs and services.

"We have been providing this type of information to our donors for 24 years. Now, for the first time, we are able to make information available to everyone in Orange County," said Shelley Hoss, president of OCCF. "The ultimate goal is to provide a meaningful way for the community to better understand local needs and opportunities to give back -- whether by donating their time, money or other resources."

The site is designed to expand, offering more profiles of nonprofits as organizations become aware of the initiative. Leaders of nonprofits can create a profile for their nonprofit for free by logging into the website.

GuideStar provides information for more than 1.5 million nonprofit organizations nationwide to advance transparency, build trust, and help donors make informed charitable giving decisions. Nonprofit Central is the local brand for DonorEdge, a GuideStar tool originally created by community foundation leaders in response to a growing trend of donors asking more questions about nonprofits they care about. DonorEdge has been implemented across the country in 15 communities that now have access to robust community knowledge, helping to inform giving, collaborative ventures and key initiatives.

Funding for Nonprofit Central was provided by The Nicholas Endowment and The Orange County Endowment, a fund of the Orange County Community Foundation.
