SM&A Gets New Ownership and Leadership
(firmenpresse) - IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/02/13 -- SM&A, a leading provider of competition and program management services, announced today new ownership and a new leadership team.
Caltius Partners, a Los Angeles, CA-based investment firm, has purchased SM&A from its previous owner Odyssey Investment Partners. Caltius is partnering with a highly-experienced team of government and aerospace contracting professionals to burnish SM&A's strong reputation as business development strategists and the premier provider of services helping corporations successfully compete for and perform on major business contracts.
Ajay Patel will be the Irvine, CA-based company's new CEO. He previously was a Director at Deloitte Consulting, and from 2001 to January 2013 was President for the National Security Practice at the Monitor Group. Ajay is returning to SM&A where he served as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President from 1993-2001. During this period SM&A enjoyed some of its most successful and productive years.

Patel is bringing with him a deeply experienced team of senior leaders to help leverage the strength of the SM&A team. Among them are: Rear Admiral Ben Wachendorf, USN (Ret.) who will serve as SM&A's COO. Ben Wachendorf ran two companies after leaving the Navy. While on active duty he was Chief of Staff of the U.S. Joint Forces Command and Defense Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. Ted Casner will be the Executive Vice President for Business Development. He has over 35 years of experience in the defense industry including 16 years at Pratt & Whitney, seven years previously at SM&A, and seven years with Monitor's National Security business. Serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer will be Al Maguire who has over 25 years of experience in all aspects of finance involving government and aerospace contracting. Filling the role of Executive Vice President for Strategy will be Admiral Bill Fallon, USN (Ret.). While on active duty Admiral Fallon served in a wide range of challenging positions including Vice Chief of Naval Operations, Commander of the U.S. Pacific Command and Commander of the U.S. Central Command. Post government he has served on a variety of corporate boards.
