Oracle's SAN Storage Delivers Substantial Performance Improvement Over Legacy Environment Accessing More Than 100,000 Hours of Programming

Golf Channel, a member of the NBC Sports Group, launched in January 1995 and was the first fully digital production facility in the United States. In its first year, Golf Channel offered a limited tournament schedule to less than 5 million homes in the United States. Today, the network televises more than 150 events each year from all the world's top tours, as well as quality original productions to more than 120 million homes worldwide.
In the past two years, the company has more than doubled the amount of content that it creates, driving up storage requirements significantly.
Seeking a cost-effective storage solution with the reliability to handle large file sizes and deliver content nearly at a moment's notice, the Golf Channel deployed the Pillar Axiom 600 storage system.
The Pillar Axiom storage system manages and stores more than 300 TB of video content and has scaled easily with the Golf Channel's rapidly growing storage capacity requirements, which doubled in the last two years.
The Pillar Axiom storage system also enabled the company to consolidate both active and inactive data in a single storage pool with extremely fast read/write performance when moving data from inactive to active tiers, delivering a substantial improvement over the company's legacy environment.
Golf Channel has also improved storage efficiency, taking advantage of the Pillar Axiom storage system's Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities to ensure critical applications are prioritized regardless of other activity on the system.
It has also been used to support new reality programming on the network, including series.
With multiple productions that shoot approximately 50TB video content each, Golf Channel uses its Pillar Axiom storage system between its live video storage device and archive, providing a fast, reliable storage system to seamlessly transfer footage between editing and archive.
