Lake Charles Spearheads Tightening Gulf Coast Labor Demand, an Industrial Info News Alert

Industrial Info forecasts that in the Gulf Coast region between Brownsville, Texas, and Pascagoula, Mississippi, labor demand for 13 skilled crafts, including welders, pipefitters, ironworkers and more, could increase 51% between 2013 and 2015 due to several labor-intensive mega-projects that will be kicking off in the near future. This represents an increase from 86.1 million required man-hours this year to 134.3 million man-hours in 2015, with requirements returning to current levels only in 2020.
Industrial Info is tracking more than 700 major capital projects valued at $179.1 billion that are scheduled for construction in the region between 2013 and 2018, up from 564 anticipated projects in 1Q13. One of the most significant areas for increased labor demand is in the Lake Charles, Louisiana, metropolitan area, for which demand for skilled craft labor is expected to more than triple between 2013 and 2015, rising from 9.19 million labor hours this year to more than 34.79 million hours in 2015.
