Glotman Simpson Cycling Club is Riding to Further Pancreatic Cancer Research in BC

(firmenpresse) - VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/18/13 -- On Saturday, August 17th, 2013 hundreds of cyclists will challenge themselves to climb Cypress Mountain for pancreatic cancer research. This is the 6th Annual Glotman Simpson Cypress Challenge, hosted by the Glotman Simpson Cycling Club, helping raise funds and awareness for pancreatic cancer research in B.C.
Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all cancers. The Canadian average for five-year survival is only 5 per cent, with nearly 600 people in B.C. expected to be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year. With so few survivors to advocate and raise funds, events like the Cypress Challenge are very important to help raise awareness and support more research.
Like years before 100 per cent of all proceeds go directly to the BC Cancer Foundation in support of the newly established Pancreas Centre BC. This partnership research centre of the BC Cancer Agency and Vancouver General Hospital sees scientists and clinicians collaborating on groundbreaking research initiatives to help improve the outcomes of pancreatic cancer patients in BC.
The event is open to everyone with a well maintained bike, a helmet, and the determination to pedal up Cypress Mountain. Over 500 cyclists, including new corporate teams, are expected to ride either 5km or 12km routes up Cypress.
Pancreatic Cancer & the Cypress Challenge
The Cypress Challenge is one of the few events building awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer research. Since it inception the Cypress Challenge raised over $380,000 for the BC Cancer Foundation, supporting the BC Cancer Agency's Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund and Pancreas Centre BC.
