BDI - BioEnergy International AG: successful start-up of the
Multi-Feedstock BioDiesel plant in Sines (Portugal)
(Grambach, 19.07.2013) The BDI Multi-Feedstock BioDiesel plant in Sines |
Portugal started official operation in the presence of the Portuguese
Minister of Economic Affairs.
- Multi-Feedstock BioDiesel plant: animal fats and used cooking oil as
raw materials
- Plant capacity amounts to 25,000 tons/a of BioDiesel
The customer Enerfuel S.A. first commissioned BDI to carry out the overall
planning, delivery and installation of the entire BioDiesel-plant in 2006.
The commission had a total value of about EUR 10 million.
After installation was completed, the project was unfortunately stopped by
the customer in 2008, however.
BDI was therefore particularly pleased to be commissioned to restart and
finalise the project in September 2012, an order worth about EUR 3 million.
Together with Enerfuel, the Portuguese mineral oil company GALP is now
involved in the Multi-Feedstock BioDiesel plant too.
The plant was handed over officially - including the presentation of the
first BioDiesel to the customer - in the presence of senior representatives
of the corporate customers and the Portuguese Minister of Economic Affairs,
who emphasised the importance of this renewable energy project for Portugal
in his speech at the inauguration ceremony.
Difficult waste and residual materials, such as used cooking oil, animal
fats and grease trap waste, as well as all kinds of vegetable oil can be
processed into high-quality BioDiesel with the BDI Multi-Feedstock
technology.
This technology has no restrictions as far as the free fatty acid content
is concerned - these acids are converted entirely into BioDiesel that meets
the requirements made by the relevant quality standard. This means that a
BioDiesel yield of up to 100% is possible.
'Following the positive conclusion of the performance test, we are
delighted to hand the plant over to a satisfied customer - particularly in
view of the fact that it is also the first Multi-Feedstock BioDiesel plant
to come into operation in Portugal, albeit after some delay. The active
involvement of the Portuguese mineral oil company GALP in this project is
confirmation to us that well-known fuel manufacturers have confidence in
the high quality of our unique BioDiesel production technology', says Dr
Edgar Ahn - CSO and member of the Management Board.
