Survey results point to continued support for Canadian chicken farmers
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 07/24/13 -- Canadians surveyed as part of the Chicken Farmers of Canada (CFC) 2013 Usage & Attitude Survey (U & A) have once again named chicken as their favourite meat!
The survey, conducted every three years, examines consumption and perceptions about general shopping habits, dining patterns and attitudes towards Canadian chicken versus imported product.
Results once again confirm that chicken is tops in the minds of Canadian grocery shoppers and continues to be an important part of their menus. Chicken has been the first choice of Canadians since 2004, when chicken per capita (per person) consumption passed beef for first place, where it has remained ever since.
This year's U & A survey, conducted for CFC by Leger Marketing, also reveals that Canadian shoppers believe that it is important for the chicken they buy to be from Canada (88%). This points to the need for more awareness on where our chicken comes from and presents an opportunity to identify the chicken we are buying as Canadian.
"Chicken is number one for Canadians who want a healthy choice for themselves and their families," said Dave Janzen, Chair of CFC. "Our farmers are proud to raise high-quality chicken for Canadians. We have been doing this for generations and it's good to know that our hard work is recognized."
Canadian shoppers were very clear in their support for local farmers and choosing chicken produced right here in Canada. Around 81% of those surveyed agreed that it is important that the Canadian Government actively defend the interests of the Canadian chicken farmers.
"Knowing that Canadians stand behind us in trade negotiations is crucial," added Janzen. "Canadians love chicken and want to make sure that fresh, Canadian-grown chicken is available for years to come."
The survey took place in late May 2013 with 2002 participants and is considered accurate within +/- 2.2%.
