(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA and MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwired) -- 07/29/13 -- Cognistat is pleased to announce the introduction of a new five minute test for risk assessment of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and dementia at the upcoming American Psychological Association Meeting, July 31st to August 4th, in Honolulu. Cognistat Five© is a cognitive screening tool for use by clinicians in determining the risk for cognitive decline in adults. The test incorporates a sophisticated clinical-based algorithm, the MCI Index, which is a graded seven point measure of cognitive decline. The MCI Index provides clinically useful cognitive information to physicians in the diagnosis of Mild Cognitive Impairment and dementia.

Cognistat Five© is the fifth product in Cognistat's catalogue of cognitive assessment tools. The original Cognistat Paper test was introduced in 1979 and has become the most widely used screening tool used by North American neuropsychologists. It is available in eleven languages and is used worldwide. The Cognistat Assessment System and Cognistat Active Form are computer-assisted, clinician-administered versions of the original Paper test and are designed to interface with electronic medical records, facilitate the monitoring of patients on repeat testing and provide a paper-free environment.

Jonathan Mueller M.D., Chief Medical Officer, and one of the original developers of Cognistat, said, "Cognistat Five© offers primary care providers a rapid and cost effective way to screen for dementia and MCI by focusing on memory, constructions and orientation - the three ability areas most vulnerable to cognitive decline. This enables the test to be completed in normal healthy subjects in five minutes." Parsa Famili, President and CEO of Cognistat said, "Our goal is to provide cost-effective rapid computer-assisted screening tools for healthcare professionals. We have a substantial customer base and foresee a growing need for these products in aging populations throughout the world."
