The Sports Committee Chairman of The Royal Canadian Legion, Mr. Ed Pigeau, unveiled the new gold, silver and bronze medals for the 2013 Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships being held in Langley from August 9th to the 11th, 2013.

"I am very excited by the new design," says Mr. Ed Pigeau. "It encompasses a dynamic flame design with the Legion's sacred symbol of Remembrance - The Poppy - as well as the grids for the track and field venues," adds Pigeau. "This new design honours the sacrifices of generations past for the freedoms enjoyed today," says Pigeau.

The medals, gold, silver and bronze, will be awarded to those athletes that have achieved a corresponding level of success during these championships.

About the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships

These championships have undergone several changes over the years since its current format was adopted in Oromocto, New Brunswick in 1977. With almost one thousand athletes participating in this annual event, including para-athletes for the first time this year, one can safely assume that The Royal Canadian Legion's National Youth Track and Field Championships will not only survive but prosper in years to come. Of particular note this year is that the Canadian Inter-university Sports (CIS) Federation will be accompanying Athletics Canada to seek out prospective world champions.
