New EU-Regulation on Biocides: AgPURE™ nanosilver, made by ras materials remains on the market.
The new Regulation 528/2012, concerning biocidal products (‘BPR’) will apply as of September 1st, 2013. It limits the marketability of nanomaterials. AgPURE™, made by ras materials GmbH, will be one of the few remaining products, being allowed to stay on the market continuously.
Brussels - EC/Berlaymont, http://ec.europa.eu, Reference: P-012602/00-10(firmenpresse) - Biocidal products are necessary for the control of organisms that are harmful to human or animal health and for the control of organisms that cause damage to natural or manufactured materials. However, biocidal products can pose risks to humans, animals and the environment due to their intrinsic properties and associated use patterns.
The EU-Regulation for Biocides mentions explicitly, “where nanomaterials are used in that product, the risk to human health, animal health and the environment has been assessed separately.” AgPURE™ nanosilver made by ras materials GmbH is the only nanosilver product in Europe, which can provide such an assessment (reference material NM 300 K at the OECD WPMN sponsorship programme). The results of this extensive research give us security, to guarantee you the save use of AgPURE™ nanosilver. AgPURE™ nanosilver, used according to our recommendations, won’t show any risk to the consumer.
All the other nanosilver products, which don’t have a risk assessment comparable to AgPURE™, have to be phased out shortly. Especially new biocidal substances, based on Lewis-Acids, a Decrease of pH-Value on surfaces, disruption of surface tension or similar effects, have to face an extensive risk assessment at first. This means they have to stay off the market before this assessment is finished (min. 24 months).
