Judge Dismisses Charges in the "Interest of Justice"
(firmenpresse) - KINGMAN, AZ -- (Marketwired) -- 08/23/13 -- Today former U.S. Attorney Mel McDonald announced that "his client Nigel Turner was vindicated of all charges in which Mr. Turner was arrested during a trespassing dispute on his property. All charges against Mr. Turner were dismissed "in the interest of justice." McDonald further noted "that Mr. Turner's arrest, based upon such flimsy evidence, was wrong."
McDonald, who is a former United States Attorney under Ronald Reagan as well as a former Superior Court Judge in Maricopa County, said that "he was astonished that the Mohave County Sheriff's office even detained Turner, let alone arrested him. Mr. Turner was told by arresting officer, Deputy Sheriff Bischoff, that he must spend the night in jail and wrongly informed him that he did not qualify for bail. He was then later informed that he was being held because he 'needed to be cleared by immigration,' even though he was a US citizen.
"Nigel should have never been arrested in the first place," said McDonald who noted that Mr. Turner employs nearly 150 people in Mohave and Clarke County and owns a destination resort and US Air Carrier that yearly look after over 120,000 tourists from around the world. "To take this outstanding citizen and arrest him and throw him in jail for these ridiculous misdemeanor charges when he was doing nothing more than protecting his own property from trespassers was absurd." Mr. McDonald commended prosecutor Michael Powell for his courage and fairness. McDonald noted that Powell weighed the evidence for one and a half months before concluding that the interest of justice required a dismissal. Mr. Turner is now considering a law suit against the Mohave County Sheriff for Civil Rights violations.
