Oberkirch, September 9, 2013 - The PWO Group presents its extensive product
range at the IAA in Frankfurt from September 12-22. At this year's event,
PWO is placing a special emphasis on lightweight solutions for which the
Company has seen a sharp increase in demand from its customers. The use of
these components contributes significantly to weight reduction in
automotive manufacturing and consequently to fuel savings and CO2
abatement. Approximately 50-60 % of PWO Group's order intake in the first
eight months of the current financial year is attributed to these
components. Lightweight concepts require, in part, new processes for the
forming of high-strength and ultra-high strength steel sheets with high
speed, high precision, and at competitive costs. Over the past few years,
PWO has developed unique process know-how in this area. This includes,
among other things, the processing of high-strength steels using
deep-drawing and rolling technology.
In this regard, PWO has recently received a number of important series
orders. Critical to winning this new business was first, PWO's expertise in
the deep-drawing technology for high-strength steels, and second, PWO's
ability to adapt this process to the respective local conditions and enable
global production at competitive costs. With these contracts, PWO once
again benefits from its global reach and delivery capabilities. The
following related projects appear to be particularly noteworthy:
PWO received a large order from a major customer for the production of a
new generation of electronic-engine housings. The challenge is to implement
the necessary functions using less material in order to produce this
lightweight solution extremely cost effectively and at the same time at the
highest production speed possible.
PWO was commissioned for the supply of components for air suspension
systems in lightweight construction for use in a passenger car of Tesla,
the American electric vehicle pioneer. This is where PWO's process know-how
in the field of deep-drawing and rolling technology of aluminum can be
fully applied.
In addition, the PWO Group recently received a number of large orders for
lightweight seating components in which the processing know-how for
high-strength, thin steel sheets plays a central role.
Due to PWO's unique product and process know-how, the Company appears
well-prepared to support its customers successfully with the development of
innovative lightweight solutions in the future. Thus, PWO is in an
excellent position to take advantage of the automotive mega-trends of
saving fuel and curbing CO2 through lightweight design. As a result, the
Company expects further above-average revenue growth in the years to come.
