IVU.elect: For regional and national elections in Germany
Yesterday, federal state elections have been held in Bavaria. Some 10 million voters have been deciding who will represent them in the Bavarian Landtag for the coming legislative period. And in only a week's time Germany will be holding its national elections, when 62 million voters will be called on to elect the next Bundestag. The two elections have one thing in common: they will be organised, conducted and evaluated using IVU.elect.

(photo: ©David Kostner)(firmenpresse) - Already in the summer of 2012, the federal state administration in Munich decided that all future elections would be conducted using the election software from Berlin. A first trial with IVU.elect was carried out successfully on 22 January 2013 in the course of preparing the election of representatives for senior citizens in February. The system was able to ensure the media-consistent registration of all election helpers. Within only 24 hours, some 500 election helpers registered online. The data they submitted were automatically checked by IVU.elect, then processed and stored in the appropriate lists of the electoral organisation. "The level of automation is a big help with the processing work, and marks a milestone on the way to the IT-supported administration of election helpers," concluded Joachim Dyllick, head of the WahlNeu project in Munich.
In order to model the electoral process in Bavaria in a formally correct way, IVU.elect was adapted to comply fully with the Bavarian electoral regulations. From the submission and examination of proposed candidates through the production of ballot papers to vote counting and the calculation of the distribution of seats under the proportional representation system, IVU.elect ensures a continuously transparent and automated process. On voting day, the system updates the statistics in real time so that the eagerly awaited results of the election for the Bavarian federal state parliament can be passed on to the media without delay.
This was the first time that IVU.elect has been used in Bavaria, but for the coming general election for the German Bundestag the use of the system has almost become a routine. Following on from the general elections in 2002, 2005, and 2009, this will already be the fourth time in a row that IVU.elect had been used for the German elections.
