Berlin, 17 September 2013 - Heliocentris Energy Solutions AG, a specialist
in clean energy and energy efficiency solutions, has today published its
unaudited half-yearly figures for 2013 in accordance with the German
Commercial Code.
Financial and operational highlights of the first half of 2013:
* Strategic focus on large-scale projects leads to delayed revenues due to
longer sales cycles with multinational large scale corporations, thus to a
decrease in sales of TEUR 3,424 in 2012 to TEUR 1,844 in the first half of
2013.
* OEM agreement with Cummins Power Generation, one of the world's leading
diesel generator manufacturers was signed for the supply of energy
management systems. From this partnership revenues in the mid double-digit
million Euro range are expected over the next five years.
* Trial phase with one of the worldwide leading mobile network operators
from the Middle East, published in July 2013, started beginning of August
successfully and is showing very good results since. Closing of the
contract for the first 237 sites is expected in the next weeks. The revenue
potential from this contract is around EUR 10 million. Significant
potential for follow-up orders for sites in this and other territories.
* In comparison with the previous year the revenue related contribution
margin in the ICT segment increased significantly from 26% to 35%. This
increase is to a large extent due to the cost reductions in product design
as well as reductions in our purchasing prices as well as increased
efficiency in the implementation of the turnkey power solutions.
* Based on this progress and further on-going test installations and
contract negotiations with leading mobile operators in the Middle East,
Africa and South-East Asia Management expects to achieve, despite the
delays in the first half of 2013, another increase in turnover in 2013 on a
full year basis compared to the previous year and breakeven in 2014.
Ayad Abul-Ella, CEO of Heliocentris commented: 'Looking back over the last
six months, we are satisfied with the progress in the acquisition of large
scale multi-national new customers such as Cummins or renowned mobile
operators from our target regions as well as the achieved increase in Sales
in our Academia business.
We are less satisfied with the speed of turning new customers into purchase
orders and revenue. Even though we have not lost any of the targeted
projects to a competitor, we had to accept significant delays due to the
longer than expected sales cycles with these large corporations. Therefore
we could not avoid the decline in sales in the first half of 2013.
Given the contract just signed with Cummins and the successful on-going
test installations at one of the top 15 mobile operators from the Middle
East our current situation can be summarised as follows: We have to accept
delays in the acquisition of new customers; the outlook to achieve
profitability in 2014 on the basis of significantly higher revenues and the
already improved revenue margins remains unchanged.'
In the first half of 2013, the company recorded a decline in sales of TEUR
3,424 in 2012 to TEUR 1,844. This decrease is mainly due to delays in the
acquisition of new customers in the 'Information and Communication
Technologies (ICT)' segment. The share of exports of total sales of 84% is
approximately at the same level as in the previous year (90%).
The revenue related contribution margin improved from 33% to 43%. The main
reason for this increase is the margin improvement in the ICT business and
a higher share of Academia business from total revenues compared to last
year.
Total costs below gross profit amounted to TEUR 7,777 in the first half of
the year (30.06.2012: TEUR 5,695). This further increase is to a large
extent due to the increase in personnel expenses from TEUR 3,089 in the
comparable period 2012 to TEUR 4,829 in the first half of 2013. Especially
in the areas development, solution&implementation engineering as well as
in the technical customer service department in our subsidiary in Dubai
additional resources have been hired mainly in the second half of 2012.
This was unavoidable to achieve the critical mass that is necessary for the
acquisition of large customers in this area. Other costs and depreciation
increased, compared to the same period last year, by TEUR 341 to TEUR
2,948. This increase in other costs largely results from costs of the
capital increase in April 2013 (TEUR 259).
The net loss increased to TEUR 5,712 in the first half of the year (30 June
2012: TEUR 4,396). Management is confident that the rise of the net loss in
the second half of the year will be significantly reduced with the realized
revenues.
The Group's cash and cash equivalents increased from TEUR 2,074 at the
beginning of the year to TEUR 8,234 as per 30.06.2013 due to the capital
increases in the beginning of the year.
For the second half of 2013, Management anticipates closing at least one
further contract with a major customer in addition to Cummins, resulting in
a repeated increase in turnover in the year 2013 compared to 2012, despite
the lower sales in the first half of 2013. Based on the progress in the
recent months, Management expects to achieve breakeven in 2014, and a
continued increase in sales and earnings in the years thereafter.
The half-year report of 2013 will be published on Friday the 20th September
on the website of Heliocentris Energy Solutions AG.
