(firmenpresse) - WINDSOR, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 09/23/13 -- The leadership of Local 1393 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE 1393) are looking forward to returning to the bargaining table with the University of Windsor.

"We are very pleased that the university has finally decided to resume bargaining," said Dean Roy, President of CUPE 1393.

"After two weeks of having our requests to sit down at the bargaining table with the university rejected, it is well past time to resolve our outstanding issues," he added.

The 282 members of CUPE 1393 have been on strike since September 8 after the university refused to budge from demands that workers accept major changes to their existing job evaluation structure.

"We've always been prepared to negotiate on this and other outstanding issues, but the university's position has been to dictate, rather than negotiate," said Roy.

"Their inflexibility on the remaining issues has unnecessarily prolonged this strike, and has put the academic year in jeopardy for thousands of students and put campus and community safety at risk. We need to sit down and finish the job of negotiating a collective agreement all parties can live with, and protects quality education at the university," he added.

Bargaining will resume tomorrow morning.

CUPE 1393 represents 282 skilled trades and professional staff at the University of Windsor, providing a wide range of services from carpentry and plumbing to nursing services, information technology, lab support and hazardous materials handling.
