Campaign on Causes.com Prompts NBC Sports to Cancel NRA-Sponsored Program "Under Wild Skies"

(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 10/01/13 -- NBC announced the immediate cancellation of the NRA-sponsored program "Under Wild Skies" after growing criticism resulted from an episode in which the host, and NRA PR strategist, Tony Makris, was filmed shooting an African Bull Elephant twice in the face. Following the episode, a viral campaign on Causes.com generated support from over 100,000 people around the world in five days.

"The campaign on Causes involved animal rights advocates concerned with the brutality of the hunt in which the elephant is not immediately killed, as well as gun control advocates who questioned the promoting of an NRA-sponsored program to a national audience," said Matt Wilson, Vice President of Impact Partnerships at Causes. "Causes.com allowed people on every side of the issue to come together around a common goal and leverage their collective voice to make an impact."

While responding to the growing calls for the cancellation of his client's program, Markis went on NRA radio and compared his critics to Hitler, claiming that they were prioritizing one species' survival over another. Thousands of comments on the Causes campaign walls showed that people supported the "Cancel Under Wild Skies" campaign for various reasons.
