Bitmanagement to engage in OGC-Project for 3D Spatial Data Infrastructure
(PresseBox) - OGC starts 3DPIE project in May 2011 / Project is targeted on an unified infrastructure for fast portrayal, delivery and exploitation of high volume 3D Geo data / OGC initiates interoperability testing of different for portrayal services for their implementation, integration and usage / Bitmanagement contributes its 3D visualization technology to the entire testing procedure / Three German renown science institutes to act as initiators
With the name "3D Portrayal Interoperability Experiment (IE)" three German scienceInstitutes, the Hasso Plattner Institut of Potsdam University, the GISscience Institute of University of Heidelberg, and the Fraunhofer Instituit for Computer Graphics Research (IGD), have set up a project which is targeted on establishing an uniform infrastructure for portrayal of Geo data by means of testing the interopera-bility of standardized viewer technologies. Beside the three mentioned initiators nine more institutions participate on the Open Geospatial Consortium project.
Speaking about geospatial data one recognizes data with huge and complex volumes which are based on open standard formats and services. The IE project is applied to identify, to test and to include further development of technologies and work flow operations. All this should come together in a unified infrastructure, where different visualization formats are compatible to each other. The main focus of this project is put on the lively discussed Web3D Services (W3DS) and Web View Services (WVS). Landscape models and city models as well as interior models based for instance on CityGML format are among those relevant data.
Besides the three mentioned initiators further nine institutions are engaged in the IE project. For the processing of the 3D technology compatibility tests Bitmanagement will support the IE project with its 3D viewer software BS Contact. This technology is based on the open standard format VRML/X3D and since around 10 aears is considered as one of the most robust 3D viewer technologies worldwide. Bitmanagement has extended its BS Contact to BS Contact GEO specifically for usage in Geo Information Systems supporting CityGML, KMZ and Collada at the same time. This 3D viewer offers interactive and realtime rendering on client computers even if huge volumes of data shall be handled.
The IE project is to identify in some series of complex tests the interoperability of different approaches, which visualize 3D content, Web3D customer applications, Web View configurations as well as mobile apps. Parallel to that the project shall clarify to what extend single standards need to be modified in case they do not support the current OGC standard. The IE project will start this May and will end in October 2011 with a presentation of results and a final report at the OGC meeting in Brussels in November 2011.
About Open Geospatial, Inc. (OGC)
The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is an international industry consortium of 421 companies, government agencies and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available interface standards. OGC® Standards support interoperable solutions that "geo-enable" the Web, wireless and location-based services and mainstream IT. The standards empower technology developers to make complex spatial information and services accessible and useful with all kinds of applications.
The Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc.® (OGC) is a non-profit, international, voluntary consensus standards organization that is leading the development of standards for geospatial and location based services.

Bitmanagement is a provider of multimedia software with focus on online interactive 3D visualization. The multimedia technology for 2D/3D, audio and video is realtime and Internet ready. Based on the ISOstandard formats VRML/X3D, CityGML and COLLADA, MPEG-4 and Java, it allows an Interactive visualization of concepts and products.
Bitmanagement develops and markets a product portfolio of visualization software, which is composed of visualization software (BS Contact VRML / X3D, MPEG-4, Geo, Stereo and Mobile), documentation (BS SDK Package) for animation and different programming tools up to Workflow optimization such as BS Encrypt.
Bitmanagement was founded in 2002 by three former employees of the blaxxun interactive AG, Munich. The company achieved sales growth and positive result in 2009 and is "cash flow positive" since its founding."
Bitmanagement is board member of the "Web3D Consortium" (USA), which is responsible for the standardization and dissemination of 3D ISO standards for the Internet. Bitmanagement is simultaneously also a member of the" 3D Consortium "for the dissemination of stereoscopic visualization.
