(firmenpresse) - ORADELL, NJ -- (Marketwired) -- 10/07/13 -- The ACT released its annual report on college readiness last month, "The Condition of College and Career Readiness," which showed that a majority of high school students today do not meet the ACT's readiness benchmarks for college. "College and career readiness problems persist among U.S. high school graduates, with the majority ill-prepared for success at the next level," ACT stated in its August 21 press release.

The 2013 ACT report included the following data:

About 54 percent of all 2013 high school graduates in the U.S. (1.8 million) took the ACT during high school.

Only 39 percent of 2013 graduates met three or more of the four ACT college readiness benchmarks (English, reading, math and science).

About 31 percent of graduates did not meet any of the ACT college readiness benchmarks. This is up from 28 percent in 2012. About 16 percent met one benchmark, 14 percent met two benchmarks, 13 percent met three benchmarks and 26 percent met all four benchmarks.

Of the 31 states where at least 40 percent of 2013 high school graduates took the ACT, in only two states did more than half of the graduates meet at least three ACT benchmarks. In another eight states, 40-49 percent of graduates met three or four benchmarks.

About 74 percent of all 2013 ACT-tested high school graduates took at least a minimum core high school curriculum.

About 87 percent of all 2013 ACT-tested high school graduates aspired to attain at least a two-year post-secondary degree.

According to Dr. Raymond Huntington, founder and chairman of , Huntington is eager to help high school students prepare for college-level academics. "Considering 87 percent of students tested claim they want to go to college and only 39 percent met the college benchmarks, these results do concern us, but Huntington has been dedicated to helping students do better in school for 36 years and we will continue to help as many students as we possibly can," said Dr. Huntington.

Huntington's tutoring programs target students' individual weaknesses and correct them so that students can successfully progress from skill to skill and grade to grade. Such individualized instruction helps students achieve academic success throughout high school, and it ensures they are prepared for college when they graduate, said Dr. Huntington.

"Our goal is to help students achieve their educational goals," said Dr. Huntington. "We will continue to strive for that -- and to help more students achieve college readiness -- in the year to come."
