(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 10/09/13 -- The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Industry, issued the following statement on the passing of business leader Paul Desmarais:
"It was with sadness that I learned of the passing of Paul Desmarais. He was a leader in Canadian business circles and a respected member of the international financial community.
"Over the years, his steadfast commitment to building Power Corporation of Canada into a global success resulted in tremendous job creation, economic growth and prosperity here at home.
"Mr. Desmarais was also active outside of the commercial arena, making major contributions in the areas of community services, education and the arts.
"His efforts earned him distinction as a member of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada, a Companion of the Order of Canada and an Officer of the Ordre national du Quebec.
"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I offer my condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Mr. Desmarais."
