Costumes Won't Disguise Impaired Drivers This Halloween
(firmenpresse) - OAKVILLE, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 10/24/13 -- MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada would like to remind Halloween revelers that a great costume may keep your fellow partiers guessing but it won't disguise your identity if you get caught driving while impaired.
As Canadians prepare to celebrate Halloween this weekend and next week, the two organizations are asking everyone to put the keys away if drinking alcohol is going to be a part of the festivities. Masqueraders should call a cab, take a bus, arrange a designated driver or plan to stay over.
"If the licence suspension, thousands of dollars in fines and fees, and possible jail time are not enough to scare people away from driving impaired, they need to consider the terrible human consequences of this criminal act," said MADD Canada National President Angeliki Souranis.
Every day, on average, 4 people are killed and 175 are injured in impairment-related crashes.
"The decision to drive impaired is one that could haunt you forever," said Allstate Insurance Company of Canada President and Chief Executive Officer John O'Donnell. "When someone is killed or injured in an impaired driving crash, you can never take that back. Don't risk your life or the lives of others by getting behind the wheel impaired."
