Alberta Barley, Alberta Wheat Commission Celebrate Collaboration, New Shared Office
(firmenpresse) - CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 10/25/13 -- Alberta Barley and the Alberta Wheat Commission (AWC) are celebrating the opening of their new office, which represents an industry-first for collaboration, as well as maximizing farmers' check-off dollars.
"It seemed like a natural fit to come together in a collaborative partnership and share resources to be more cost effective for our producers," says Doug Cornell, General Manager for the Alberta Wheat Commission (AWC). "We are two organizations that are working for the same purpose and the same members."
The AWC and Alberta Barley have similar mandates - producer directed organizations representing Alberta's wheat and barley farmers.
"Our organizations have very similar goals and priorities," says Lisa Skierka, General Manager for Alberta Barley. "Working out of the same office allows us to coordinate resources while ensuring that we are an effective voice for the farmers we represent."
While the two groups share office space, staff, and ideas, they are still considered their own entities and each have priorities for their marketing, research, and communications programs.
"The priorities for each group will remain the same and we will each continue to invest in research and market development to strengthen our industries," adds Skierka. "The grain industry has a bright future and we are looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead."
The Grand Opening event, which hosted a number of Alberta Barley and Alberta Wheat members, industry representatives, and federal and provincial delegates, kicked off with an official ribbon cutting and toast for a prosperous Alberta grain industry.
